Itinerary - Treasures from the South (8 days / 7 nights)

Daily departures

 

Day 1: .... / Lima

  • Upon arrival to Lima City, reception and transfer to your hotel.

  • Lodging in Lima.

 

Day 2: Lima / Arequipa (B)

  • Upon arrival a host will meet and assist you in transferring to the hotel and in registering.

  • In the afternoon Arequipa City Tour and Monastery of Santa Catalina Convent - Your half day sightseeing in the Historical Centre of Arequipa of this beautiful city, placed on the World Cultural Heritage list by UNESCO, features Mixed Baroque churches and mansions from the colonial period like the Monastery of Santa Catalina, The Main Square is bordered by various arched walkways and the Cathedral, it showcase a beautiful bronze fountain of three plates crowned by the figure of a sixteenth century soldier. Around the square, you see three granite portals with brick and lime bases.

    The Monastery of Santa Catalina is called "a city within a city", a Spanish city in miniature with stone streets, beautiful patios, and plaza, it is a masterpiece of colonial architecture, and houses some of the finest examples of Spanish American religious art. Since 1970 visitors have been able to stroll through the streets and cloisters that during colonial times were the refuge of female nobility who had decided to isolate from the world and dedicate entirely to prayer

Day 3: Arequipa / Colca Valley (B)

  • Breakfast.

  • At 8:00 a.m. departure toward Colca Valley, on the way you shall pass by Chachani Peak’s backside, then by Pampas Cañahuas in National Reserve of Salinas and Aguada Blanca, while enjoying the typical Andean landscape and the vicuñas on sight.

  • Stop on route in a restaurant for lunch (not included)

  • Then continuing through the short route, you will enjoy the sight of the Volcanoes Balcony, Ampato and Sabancaya peaks among others.

  • Arrival to Chivay and transfer to your selected hotel.

  • In the afternoon, visit to La Calera hot springs (entrance ticket is not included).

  • Return to your hotel

  • Lodging in Colca Valley.

 

Day 4: Colca Valley / Arequipa (B)

  • Breakfast

  • To maximize your probability of seeing condors we depart very early towards a superb natural lookout point “Cross of the Condor” from where one can watch condors wheeling across the Colca Canyon, at about an altitude of 15,000 feet. The valley also features pre-Inca ruins, pre-Inca burial grounds and archaeological remains left behind by the Collagua, the ancient inhabitants of the area. Drive further in to the canyon to observe the way of life in this remote land and to admire the impressive irrigation system and the fertile mountains terraced for farming of the Colca Valley. Ask your guide to take you to one of the many workshops in which close to a thousand artisans, scattered throughout the towns in the canyon, turn their ancient sewing and weaving machines into paint brushes to give life to impressively intricate and colorful embroidery and shawls. On route visit Pinchollo, Achoma and Yanque towns.

  • Return to Chivay and free time for lunch

  • Bus departure to Arequipa

  • Arrival in Arequipa and transfer to your selected hotel

  • Lodging in Arequipa City

 

Day 5: Arequipa / Cuzco (B)

  • Breakfast

  • Transfer to the airport for your departure flight to Cuzco City.

  • Upon arrival to Cuzco City, reception and transfer to your hotel.

  • Simple coca leaf tea ceremony followed by rest, recommended for altitude acclimatization.

  • In the afternoon, city tour in the Historical Centre of Cuzco and nearby monuments and surroundings: Plaza de Armas (Main Square), Cathedral, Koricancha or Templo del Sol (Sun’s Temple), after go to Archaeological Park of Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay.

  • Return to hotel

  • Lodging in Cuzco.

 

Day 6: Cuzco / Sacred Valley of the Incas / Cuzco (B-L)

  • Breakfast.

  • Departure on a sightseeing bus towards the Valle Sagrado de los Incas (Sacred Valley of the Incas) visiting Pisac, an ancestral town where the traditional “trueque” activity is still held nowadays (this is a marketplace where agricultural products are exchanged instead of using money). Here, its handcrafts and bakery famous for its traditional “guagua” breads will also be appreciated.

  • Lunch at the Sacred Valley followed by a visit to Ollantaytambo Complex, the city-fortress with giant carved stones and fabulous terraced fields.

  • Return to Cuzco City.

  • Lodging in Cuzco.

 

Day 7: Cuzco / Machu Picchu / Cuzco (B-L)

  • Breakfast.

  • Transfer to the train station for boarding the train to Machu Picchu Town (Aguas Calientes)

  • Upon arrival to Machu Picchu Town station, transfer in minibuses that will climb you up to Machu Picchu Inca City. Guided tour.

  • At scheduled time, return down to Machu Picchu Town for lunch.

  • Transfer to the train station for your trip back to Cuzco City.

  • Upon arrival to Cuzco, transfer to your selected hotel.

  • Lodging in Cuzco.

 

Day 8: Cuzco / .... (Lima, Puno or Tambopata) (B)

  • Breakfast.

  • At fixed time transfer to the airport for your departure flight. (or bus / train station)
